The Rest (of December)

What a year!

Sometimes, I felt like a rat at Ratanga Junction. The roller coaster was just so much bigger and faster than I could ever have imagined.

Thank you for sharing this year with me. I deeply appreciate the support I received from people like you. Without it, I would not have made it.

In turn, I sincerely hope I helped make your year a happier, healthier and more fulfilling one.

Here’s a brief recap of some of this year’s learning highlights for me (leaving aside the joyous, tumultuous arrival of another baby in May):

Microbes: I learnt so much about the importance of microbes in all aspects of our health. Far from being our enemies, they are part of every aspect of our lives. Mostly to our benefit, but sometimes to our detriment. Learning how to make alliances with these tiny armies can literally make the difference between life and death, or between an unhappy and a happy life.

Minerals: I learnt that there about 70 elements necessary for life. That’s almost three quarters of the periodic table! My medical education only taught me something about ~20 of these. The other ~50 are mostly still a mystery to medical science, since they aren’t easy to measure in the body. By sourcing a lava dust with a broad sweep of minerals, I’ve managed to find solutions for some of my patients’ really difficult health challenges. It was fascinating for me to learn how many diseases have their roots in mineral deficiencies.

Vitamins: While messing about with vitamin supplementation in diabetes, I accidentally stumbled across a vitamin combo with remarkable brain-boosting properties. I’m still tinkering with the blend, but the results so far have been WOW.

Cancer: In February, several cancer survivors knocked on my door for help (independent of each other). That started a learning cascade which still continues. Through word of mouth alone, some 200+ cancer survivors passed through my practice doors this year – almost one new survivor per day. By grace, nearly 95% are still with us today, and most are doing really well. I keep on being amazed at the power of humble plants to heal even serious diseases such as cancer.

Apricots: Apropos cancer. After months of detailed study, I finally found out how to use apricot kernels for a wide range of health challenges. Although reviled in the mainstream media as ‘quackery’, the apricot kernel hides an astonishing amount of health secrets. Overall, the benefits of eating apricot kernels every day lie in the way the active ingredient (Vit B17) improves blood flow to all organs (and I mean ALL organs).

Macular degeneration: In another eye-opener (no pun intended), I came across research on a number of supplements that stop or reverse macular degeneration. This is a fairly common problem among the elderly. Watch this space, as I try to translate the research into real products.

Functional medicine: After attending a day-long seminar by the “godfather of functional medicine”, Dr Jeff Bland, I realised I was actually a functional medicine doctor. There was a name for my approach. For years, I have done my best to get at the source of disease, instead of simply treating the outcomes (what would normally be called ‘diagnoses’). Hearing this approach given academic respectability was very encouraging for me. And meeting so many like-minded doctors in one spot was also a big boost.

Digesting so much new and exciting information takes time. I will therefore hide away for a couple of weeks to turn all of this into benefits for YOU.

In the meantime, the e-shop continues to run as always. My amazing and capable elves will look after your orders while I’m gone. Emails will be handled by Gail.

I trust you will have a spot of rest amid all the year-end rush. Next year, we try again!

Peace on earth,

Doc Frank
